002 The Material

With an appearance quite similar to snakeskin, SÓUN handbags are made from a by-product: organic farmed and natural tanned salmon skin.
In contrast to other exotic leathers the fish will never be bred for their skin. It's a waste material from the food industry that alternatively would have been thrown into our natural environment causing pollution and eco-system imbalances.
Our skins are from organic and sustainable fishing farms in Europe.
Traditional tanning techniques are combined with innovative natural extracts. We use a biodegradable substitute, no chrome and no heavy metals, utilizing a 100% chrome-free tanning process. The skins are flexible and very strong through its cross-fibre structure.
We aim for as much consistency in coloring as possible. However, working with a natural process comes with unique details per piece giving each it's own individual character.

VELVET

We have selected Italian cotton velvet, a natural biodegradable fibre. The material is pure and unblended boosting the material's chances of being recycled.
